With our allies from <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AtifHamburg\">ATIF<\/a> (Federation of workers from Turkey in Germany), we organized a manifestation in front of a Starbucks store in the center of the city.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Why Starbucks, McDonalds &amp; Co:<\/h2>\n<h3><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Low wages<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The NGG&#8217;s (Food, Beverages and Catering Union) recent negotiations with the employers&#8217; association &#8220;Bundesverband der Systemgastronomie e.V. (BdS)&#8221; took place in system catering. The contract closing still means \u2013 despite an annual increase of 50 cents \/ h \u2013 poverty wages for the employees. A wage of 10\u20ac from 1.7.2020 often means to be dependent on social assistance. The required 12\u20ac will be available from 1.12.2023- \u2013 and then only from wage group 2.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Precarious jobs<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0Even at full-time, the money, especially regarding the high rents of a big city, is barely enough to live on. At Starbucks, McDonalds &amp; Co., most of the contracts are part-time. This means the employees are forced to accept short-term assignments, &#8220;voluntary and flexible&#8221;. On-call work is common: keep it short with the hours so that the employees still have to be happy about short-term assignments. The contracts are concluded for a limited time: Up to two years probation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wobblies.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/IWW10-Ak2-e1585257944272.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-13924 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wobblies.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/IWW10-Ak2-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"339\" height=\"191\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Union Busting<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">By restructuring, e.g. Starbucks and McDonalds try to keep the factories union and works council free. The Berlin Starbucks \/ AmRest (franchisee or: &#8220;Licensed Starbucks Coffee Houses&#8221; operator) branches are constantly being redistributed or restructured. Works councils are often cut off from their colleagues. In case of new works council elections, if they are initiated by the workers, the superiors try to install employees close to the employer.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Six attempts at dismissal against works council chairmen<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Works councils are fired on the basis of extremely far-fetched and unsubstantial constructs. For example, an attempt was made to fire a works council because he addressed his superiors with their last names.
